Abstract

Flight safety and security are critical aspects of airport operations, with Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel playing a key role as the frontline of protection. High mental workload, especially among Junior and Senior license levels, has the potential to affect work performance and psychological stability. level of mental workload based on AVSEC license classification and propose strategic measures to reduce it. The literature review supports that disproportionate workloads can lead to chronic work stress and decreased performance if not managed effectively.
This research uses a descriptive quantitative approach, Employing the NASA- TLX method to assess six dimensions of workload: Mental Demand, Physical Demand, Temporal Demand, Performance, Effort, and Frustration. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 69 AVSEC personnel at Djalaluddin Airport across Basic, Junior, and Senior license levels. The analysis involved calculating raw average values of each dimension and comparing them across levels. Instrument validity and reliability were tested to ensure data accuracy. Results show that Basic personnel scored 42.05 (moderate category), Junior scored 88, and Senior scored 84 (both in the very high category). Junior personnel were most burdened in Physical Demand (261) and Effort (238), while Senior personnel scored highest in Mental Demand (243) and Temporal Demand (211). Recommended strategies include promoting qualified Basic staff, implementing 20/40-minute X-ray operator rotations, stress management training, and routine evaluations using NASA-TLX to support a balanced and efficient work system.
